Postoperative Instructions for Anorectal Surgery

Keep in mind that postoperative pain is normally the worst during the first 10-14 days after your procedure. Remember to maintain a high-fiber diet and closely follow the instructions here. While a small amount of bleeding is common, especially with bowel movements, please notify us at once if you have excessive bleeding.

Instructions After Hemorrhoidal Banding

After banding, you may experience anal pressure and/or the sensation of needing to have a bowel movement — this is most prominent during the first 48 hours. The bands typically fall off within 3 to 5 days. Please read more instructions here and call us if you experience any heavy bleeding.

Avoiding Dehydration After a New Ileostomy

After a new ileostomy, dehydration can lead to acute kidney failure and electrolyte abnormalities. Please read our care instructions here carefully. Remember, if the ileostomy output is greater than 1200 ml in 24 hours, please call the office at 904-399-0667.

Recovery After Colon or Rectal Surgery

After colon or rectal surgery, it’s essential to follow a low-fiber diet for two weeks to aid your recovery. This includes limiting foods like nuts, seeds, and whole grains. For detailed dietary guidelines and post-operative care instructions, please read more here. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact our office.
